The reality is that if you ask your organization's senior staff members to define exactly what "leadership" is, you're going to get a myriad of different answers.
The salient question is, if the people that are in charge of running your organization can't even agree on "what" leadership is ... How then, are they going to be unified in leading your organization and its human capital in fulfilling your organization's mission statement, value proposition and in general terms ... achieve organizational success?
In the majority of American organizations, their leadership programs are actually a management development or executive development program that prepares selected candidates for operational oversight of the various departments or divisions of the organization. These programs are more managerial in nature, as they primarily focus on operational function while ignoring the actual development of "people" skills, which are a prerequisite for authentic leadership.
Unfortunately, all too many of the individuals that are in business and government positions that require authentic leadership ... Have never undertaken any "formal" leadership development training.
A commonly held fallacy is that someone is "a born leader". Nothing could be further from the truth. When it comes to identifying the qualities, characteristics and attributes of an authentic leader, there are literally hundreds of them. The key point of understanding is that each and every one of them can in fact be "learned".
Your organization is latent with people that have untapped leadership potential that is just waiting to be discovered and harnessed.
Fact: Every organization and its people have both the "capacity" and "need" to improve day to day performance while achieving long term goals and objectives.
Question: "How" will your organization meet this significant challenge?
As cited above, there are hundreds of interpretations of what authentic leadership is, as well as the qualities, characteristics and attributes that constitute authentic leadership.
It is our solemn belief that America's 6th President John Quincy Adams, has historically provided the most appropriate quantification of what Authentic Leadership truly is:
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more ... you are a leader."
The tenants of John Quincy Adams definition of authentic leadership serve as the core concepts of our formal leadership development programs, leadership training workshops and seminars.
